[origin: WO2004014660A1] An intaglio printing plate (2) has an array of imaging ink recesses (10); and, in each recess, an ink retaining structure comprising one or more regular arrays of raised elements (11) extending from the base of the recess to no more than 60 % of the height of the recess, ink retaining trenches extending between the raised elements, and wherein no more than 30 % of the area of the recess base is provided with raised elements.
