[origin: WO2004022946A1] The invention relates to a method for regulating the operation of a device for generating electric energy. Said device comprises a generator with at least one stator winding that can be impinged by an electric voltage and at least one rotor and a two-stroke, free-piston internal combustion engine, provided with two coaxial cylinders arranged one behind the other and a pair of pistons per cylinder, the pistons of each pair working in opposition to one another. The invention is characterised in that the respective pistons of each pair that are displaced in the same direction are interconnected, said piston connections interacting with the rotor of the generator and that the electric voltage impingement of the stator winding and/or the fuel metering is regulated to maintain a predefinable compression ratio in the cylinders of the free-piston internal combustion engine.
