[origin: WO2004022957A1] The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine (10) comprising at least one injection valve (30) to which a piezoelectric actuator (58) that is impinged upon by a triggering signal of a control device (34) of the internal combustion engine (10). Said actuator (58) causes the needle (44) of the injection valve (30) to be lifted according to the triggering signal in order for fuel to be injected. The triggering signal is modified in accordance with a triggering power that is received by the piezoelectric actuator (58) so as to increase the performance of the internal combustion engine (10). It is also possible to reduce the temperature of the control device (34).
