[origin: EP1538247A1] Cushioning (182, 184, 186) to protect the shin against pressure or impact is placed asymmetrically with respect to the central plane (106) to match the anatomy of the shinbone. The cushioning is arranged in a number of vertical strips (182, 184, 186) and contains reinforcing threads of finer thickness than the main garment knitted into a plush surface. The garment additionally has cushioning in the calf region (196), at the Achilles tendon, and at the ankles (158, 168). The cushioning, also with reinforcing threads and a plush surface, is arranged asymmetrically to match anatomical requirements. The calf cushioning (196) also acts as heat insulation and has air pockets.
