[origin: EP1541760A1] An assembly (1) has a coating station (2) that applies a coating of e.g. printing ink to a moving web of paper prior to its passage through a calendar (5) nip gap (15). The calendar and coating unit are mounted within a common frame (16) whose a drum-side (17) is at an angle of between 30 and 90 degrees to the horizontal (18). The coating station has an ink application nip (9) formed by a coating roller (7) and a second roller or a rake. The application roller axis of rotation is in the same plane as the calendar (5) rollers axles (12, 14). A measuring frame (6) is located between the calendar and coating station and fixed to the frame (16).
