[origin: WO2004007924A1] The invention relates to a compensation reservoir (2) for a cooling circuit of an internal combustion engine, comprising at least one inflow connection (8, 10) and an outflow connection (12), both of which are connected to the cooling circuit, and a chamber system that is embodied inside the reservoir and receives a coolant. The individual chambers (26a to 26l) are at least partly interconnected via openings (29a to 29i or 30a to 30g). A cooling water pipe (8, 10) that is joined to the inflow connection extends into one of the chambers which is provided with an impact element (21, 22) for the inflowing coolant. Said impact element (21, 22) is embodied as an arched directing wall, along which the inflowing coolant is guided in a specific manner, whereby the coolant flowing into the compensation reservoir is prevented from foaming, among other things.
