Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2004020039A2] The invention relates to an external programming device for an implant, comprising a transceiver for receiving data from the implant and transmitting data to said implant, in addition to a display with a display control unit, which are connected to the transceiver. The external programming device is configured in a modular manner from at least one autonomous hand set and at least one base station, in such a way that the hand set comprises the transceiver, the display and display control unit, in addition to a network-independent, rechargeable power supply, a power supply interface and a data interface. The base station comprises a second power supply interface that is compatible with the power supply interface of the hand set and a second data interface that is compatible with the data interface of the hand set, in such a way that the hand set can either be coupled electrically and mechanically to the base station, or can be detached from said base station and used autonomously.
