Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2004030844A1] The aim of the invention is especially to increase the process security and reliability of permanent connections between overlapping materials. Said aim is achieved by a method for permanently joining overlapping, plate-shaped parts, particularly metal sheets, in which an undercut between the parts is produced in a deforming manner. Said method comprises the following steps: the parts that are to be joined are disposed between a protrusion of a male die and a support area of a female die; a temporary elevation is formed on the side of the parts, which faces the female die, by pressing the protrusion of the male die into the parts that are to be joined and against the support area at least until the parts rise from the support area outside the forming elevation; and an undercut is formed in the parts by flattening the elevation between the male die and the female, the male die being further approached to the female die. Also disclosed is a device for carrying out the inventive method.
