[origin: WO2004030942A1] A device for producing a painting comprises an outer frame (1) and a base canvas (6) that can be stretched onto said outer frame (1). The outer frame (1) is provided with an additional supporting structure (10) for at least one shell-shaped element (11), which is placed inside the outer frame (1) while forming a recess. Before being stretched onto the outer frame (1), the base canvas (6) is placed inside the recess and is fixed therein. After the base canvas (6) is stretched onto the outer frame (1), at least one additional inner frame (27), over which another canvas (26) is stretched, can be placed inside the recess (20), in which the base canvas (6) is placed, and can be fixed therein. This creates a, so to speak, canvas in canvas structure that offers the user/painter the possibility to create a painting in painting whereby obtaining particular aesthetic effects.
