Abstract (en)

[origin: WO03076728A2] The present invention relates to a post piling and pile driving apparatus. A problem with existing systems has been to attach a drive mechanism to a conventional three-point linkage of a tractor. Sometimes it has been difficult to manoeuvre the system into restricted spaces, such as onto slopes or soft ground. The invention ensures that the post piling and pile driving apparatus naturally assumes a plumb position irrespective of its position or pitched angle. The invention provides a post piling apparatus comprising: an alignment means operably connected to a prime mover by a support arm and a driving device suspended from said alignment means, the driving device including means for driving a post or like article into the ground. The support arm may be operably connected to and powered by the prime mover. In an alternative embodiment a pile driver is arranged to hold and guide a pile whilst it is being struck with a hammer mass via an impact plate. The driver is adapted to receive one of a number of removable profile and impact plates. Profile and impact plates are adapted to receive square, semi-circular, corrugated and sheet piles so that they are held steady whilst being driven and the impact force is transmitted evenly to the ground penetrating area of the pile. Profile plates and impact plates are reversible so as to allow for setting contiguous runs of sheet piles, for example, from right to left or left to right. A cutout section is provided in the part of the pile driver that supports the pile guide so as to allow for adjacent, contiguous piles to be driven to the same depth.
