[origin: EP1553028A2] The device for the sealing of the annular gap (5) between an inner wall of a vertical round container for a liquid and a floating cover (2) has a sealing profile (7) with at least one absorbent mat to absorb especially rain water draining from the wall region above the floating cover. The vertical edge sections of the mat (9) are turned away from the container wall (3). The mat is flexibly constructed and retained at least by the aforesaid edge sections by a support element (8) in such a way that the mat, viewed in vertical section, is curved convexly to the inner wall of the container.
