[origin: WO2004037056A1] The invention relates to a grill unit equipped with a fire basin (11) for holding burnable material (12), and with a grill grate (13), which is placed on the upper edge (29) of said fire basin (11). The grill unit is characterized in that an electric heating element (16) is placed in the area of the bottom (17) of the fire basin (11) and can be brought into contact with the burnable material (12). The invention enables grill charcoal, for example, to be electrically ignited in an easy and safe manner. Afterwards, the grill unit can be operated like a conventional charcoal grill.
