Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1558052A1] The method involves transmitting assisting data representative of satellite identifiers, as unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) type messages to a terminal. The messages are transmitted based on user plane protocol, via a USSD type data transfer channel. A satellite assisted positioning device (D) is set on the satellites to estimate distances separating the satellites and the terminal, for determining terminal`s position. The USSD type data transfer channel is established between the positioning device (D) of the terminal and localization management equipment belonging to the cellular network, in case of localization request of the terminal. An independent claim is also included for a mobile communication terminal for a cellular communication network.
