Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2004039512A1] The invention relates to a rolling mill comprising support plates (2) which are provided on the operating side (BS) of the stands (F1-Fi) and can be displaced transversally in relation to the axes of the rolls, said support plates being embodied in such a way that they can receive sets of working rolls (4) and are located adjacent to the mill floor level (7) for transporting and delivering the working rolls (4). Said rolling mill also comprises trenches (10) which are respectively arranged upstream from the stands (F1-Fi) on the operating side (BS), the base (11) of said trenches being used to deliver sets of back-up rolls (9). The aim of the invention is to reduce the delivery paths of the working rolls during replacement. To this end, a transport device (12) is associated with the support plates (2) and transports the respective support plates (2) back and forth between a position for replacing the working rolls, wherein the support plates (2a) are arranged directly next to the roll stands above the trenches (10), and a position for changing the working rolls, wherein the support plates (2c) are arranged below the mill floor level (7) next to the trench region.
