[origin: WO2004041769A1] The invention relates to a method of the production of an ester from an organic carbonyl compound and an alcohol, by carrying out an esterification reaction in the presence of a catalyst, comprising an inorganic phosphorous (I) compound and a titanate. The method is carried out by firstly mixing the organic carbonyl compound and the inorganic phosphorous (I) compound together, the mixture obtained is then filtered and the alcohol and the titanate added to the filtered mixture and the esterification carried out. The method is particularly suitable for the esterification of (poly)fatty acids or (poly)hydroxyfatty acids to esters with a high degree of esterification and low colouration.
