[origin: WO2004040117A1] The invention relates to a fuel injection system for internal combustion engines comprising a fuel injection nozzle (2), which can be supplied with fuel by a fuel high-pressure source (1). Said fuel injection nozzle comprises: a moving nozzle plunger (3) for opening and closing injection openings; an injection nozzle high-pressure space (21), and; an injection nozzle control space (20). A pressure intensifying device (7) is connected between the fuel injection nozzle (2) and the fuel high-pressure source (1). Said pressure intensifying device has a moving pressure intensifier plunger (8), a pressure intensifier working space (11), a pressure intensifier control space (12), and a pressure intensifier high-pressure space (9). A filling connection (10), which is open when the fuel injection nozzle (2) is closed and which serves to fill the pressure intensifier high-pressure space (9), is closed by the nozzle plunger (3) when the fuel injection nozzle (2) is open.
