[origin: WO2004045920A1] A dashboard for a motor vehicle comprising at least one ventilation outlet and one ventilation channel connected thereto and arranged between the dashboard, in addition to an airbag module which is maintained behind the dashboard and in whose housing a gas generator and an inwardly folded gas bag are arranged. An exit opening is provided for the unfolding gas bag in the dashboard, said opening being sealed by a cover which opens when the airbag module is released. The invention is characterized in that the airbag module (16) is arranged adjacent to the ventilation channel (12) such that the gas bag (18) unfolds into the ventilation channel (12), when the airbag module (16) is released, and unfolds out of the instrument panel (11) via the ventilation exit (13,14). The ventilation exit (13,14), which is arranged in the dashboard (11) is moved away by the pressure of the unfolding gas bag (18).
