[origin: EP1563925A1] A two-part process creates a side-slit for a flat pipe inserted in the sidewall of a thick-walled collector pipe (2) forming part of a heat exchange assembly. In the first stage the thickness of the pipe wall is reduced by a peeling die (6). In the second stage the remaining material is displaced by a punch (8). Also claimed is a commensurate assembly (1).
