Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1566434A2] An apparatus for sorting particles (60, 62) in parallel.includes an input reservoir (152) configured to hold a mixture (116) of first particles (60) and one or more second particles (62). The apparatus also may include a transport mechanism (74) configured to move portions of the mixture (116) in parallel from the input reservoir (152). The apparatus may further include a plurality of sorter units (50) in fluid communication with the input reservoir (152). The plurality of sorter units (50) may be configured to receive the portions of the mixture (116). In addition, each sorter unit (50) may be configured to selectively move at least one second particle (62), if received in one of the portions, from a path (68) followed by first particles (60) received in the one portion so that the at least second particle (62) follows a different path (70).
