Abstract (en)
A paper making assembly has one or more transverse beams supporting e.g. a screen rake or scraper blade in contact with a drum mantle. The transverse beam (2) incorporates a sensor (11) that monitors the transverse beam condition and linked to an actuator (12) that modifies beam condition. The sensor and actuator are embedded within the composite material beam. The materials are fibers, metal, a thermoplastic material, a piezo-electric and /or opto-electric active component, and a piezo-ceramic.
