[origin: WO2004053170A1] A process for the tanning of unpickled pelts without increasing the basicity of the liquor with basic chromium salts, optionally in the presence of fungicides and/or monoalkyl ethers of a diol, with pretreatment of the pelts in the liquor with nonsaccharide, aliphatic polyols or simultaneous addition of nonsaccharide, aliphatic polyols and basic chromium salts to the liquor, leads to complete tanning with high liquor exhaustion and shorter tanning times.
