Abstract (en)
A method of checking magnetizable elements 12, 13 contained in or on sheet material 11 bearing printed matter defining security documents, comprising the steps of providing a checking area 1 with a magneto-optic active substance 2, submitting said checking area to a polarized light beam 6 and to a magnetic field, passing light 16 emerging from said active substance via a polarizer 9 acting as an analyzer and to detector means 10, submitting regions of interest of said sheet material to said magnetic field in the vicinity of said checking area, and analyzing by image processing means 15 the differences between the light received by said detector means respectively in the presence and absence of said sheet material in the vicinity of said checking area. <IMAGE>
