[origin: WO2004059362A1] The invention relates to a microscope which comprises a base or stand, a stage support, a guide for adjusting the stage support or an objective changing device with inserted objectives and a stage for accommodating an object or a sample. The microscope is provided with a supporting cell (7; 36) that is optimized in terms of material and rigidity and that is rigidly yet replaceably linked wit the stand (1; 30). On the supporting cell (7; 36) first structural components for receiving, retaining and adjusting the objective (10; 41) and second structural components for positioning the object (19) or the sample relative to the objective (10; 41) are disposed. The supporting cell (7; 36) can be used in upright as well as in inverted microscopes. The first structural components are configured as an objective changing device and/or an objective focusing device and the second structural units comprise a stage support (17), a stage guide and a stage (18; 45).
