[origin: WO2004049535A1] The invention relates to a protective switch comprising an actuating mechanism (24), main contacts (22), current sensors (26) for detecting the phase currents, and an evaluation unit (28), which compares the detected values with fault criteria that can be set and trips the actuating mechanism (24) when the fault criteria are exceeded. The evaluation unit (28) comprises means for detecting the change in a monitoring variable and for outputting a tripping signal in the event a critical change in the monitoring variable is exceeded. The monitoring variable is furnished by a temperature-dependent resistor (34) that is connected to a system, said system being operated by a motor (11) and supplied with power via the protective switch (2).
