[origin: WO2004056255A1] The aim of the invention is to create a method and a dishwasher for carrying out said method, which better show the actual average energy consumption of a dishwasher. Said aim is achieved by a washing method for a dishwasher, in which the respective consumption of several washing program cycles is detected. An intermediate rinsing operation no longer takes place as a matter of principle during a washing cycle; instead, said intermediate rinsing operation takes place only when the softening device has been regenerated during the washing program and the quantity of water used for the regeneration process can be utilized at least in part for the intermediate rinsing operation. Said aim is also achieved by a dishwasher in which the inventive washing method is applied.
