[origin: WO2004055516A1] The invention provides a method of diagnosis of infection by a pathogenic organism wherein lymphocytes in or from isolated bronchoalveolar lavage fluid are exposed to an antigen specific to said pathogen and the resulting cytokine production by said lymphocytes is indicative of a positive diagnosis. Also provided is a diagnostic assay kit adapted or assemblable to perform the method.
