Abstract (en)

The cathode ray tube, comprising a front panel, a skirt and a funnel-shaped rear section, has a metal anti-implosion band (30) round the outside of the panel and at least partly covering the skirt. The two ends (31, 32) of the band, which can be cut at a right angle or chamfered, are joined together by laser welding. The weld is preferably effected from opposite sides of the band, i.e. the side in contact with the tube and the side opposite it.
