[origin: WO2004060730A1] The invention relates to a rain sensor (2), in particular for a motor vehicle. Said sensor comprises a measuring section containing at least one transmitter (12) and at least one receiver (14) for electromagnetic waves (light waves). A windscreen is positioned in said section, affecting the wave propagation between the transmitter(s) (12) and the receiver(s) (14) in such a way that when a film forms on said windscreen, in particular when it is wet by precipitation, an output signal detected by the receiver (14) is modified. The rain sensor (2) also comprises structures for coupling in and coupling out electromagnetic waves, said structures having beam-focussing properties. According to the invention, the rain sensor (2) is composed of at least two modular units (7) and (19) that can be interconnected, one of said modular units (7, 19) comprising optical and electronic components.
