Abstract (en)

An apparatus for covering groups (1) of products with tubular stretch film (2), closed at one end to form a hood, comprises at least: a frame (4) inside which the group (1) of products is placed; a unit (5) for stretching a portion of film (2) in a configuration where it is open and folded in concertina fashion; the stretching unit (5) comprising a plurality of arms (6 - 9) each consisting of a first section (10) for receiving the film (2) and a second section (11) by which each arm (6 - 9) is connected to the frame (4); the arms (6 - 9) being acted upon by horizontal translational drive means (12a) and vertical drive means (12b) which, respectively, at least stretch the film (2) and move it downwards along the frame (4) in such a way as to cover the product group (1) to a height close to a working surface (S) for covering the product group (1); each arm (6 - 9) being further equipped with film (2) retaining means (13) located and operating in the region of the first arm section (10) so as to retain a part of a free edge (2a) of the film (2) unwound until the film (2) itself, by a suitable movement of the arms (6 - 9), is positioned under the working surface (S).
