A sewing machine has a base plinth with an overhead portal that pivots against the base for maintenance access. The sewing machine electric motor is linked to the power supply via a gravity-operated switch (12) in the portal housing. When the portal moves from the operating position (A) to the maintenance position (B) the switch automatically interrupts the electricity supply. The switch is a gravity-operated magnetically induced reed switch located in the portal housing at the same height as the drive shaft and locate on a printed circuit board. The portal housing consists of two shelf halved bonded together.

Eine Nähmaschine weist ein Maschinengehäuse (1, 2) auf, das an einer Tischplatte (7) aus einer Betriebsstellung (A) in eine Wartungsstellung (B) verschwenkbar ist. Die Nähmaschine weist einen mit ihrer Hauptwelle (4) in Drehantriebsverbindung stehenden Antriebsmotor (3) auf. Weiterhin ist eine Sicherheitseinrichtung (12) vorgesehen, die einen die Stromversorgung des Antriebsmotors (3) bei in die Wartungsstellung (B) verschwenktem Maschinengehäuse (1, 2) unterbrechenden Schalter (20) aufweist. Dieser Schalter (20) ist ein durch Schwerkraft betätigbar ausgebildeter Reed-Schalter (20), der auf einer mit einer Steuerung für den Antriebsmotor (3) in Verbindung stehenden Platine (8) angeordnet ist. Der Reed-Schalter (20) ist mittels eines Dauermagneten induktiv betätigbar, der in einem an der Platine (8) angebrachten Gehäuse verschiebbar geführt angeordnet ist. <IMAGE>
