[origin: FR2848227A1] The textile material, made by linking two or more layers of overlaid yarns by thermal adhesion or a similar process has a much higher number of weft yarns than warp yarns, laid at a non-perpendicular angle to one another. The weft yarns are selected for high strength, e.g. of glass, polymer or carbon fibres and are continuous or non-continuous, while the warp yarns are evenly spaced and coated with a thermo-fusible material. The angle between the warp and weft yarns is preferably close to 80 deg, and the material can have two warp layers - one on each side of a weft layer. The weft layer can include bulked yarns or yarns pre-impregnated with a thermoplastic matrix. The textile material is made on a machine (20) with feeders (22, 23) for several warp yarns, which are laid on the outer surface of a cylinder (21), with a system (27 - 29) for applying a number of weft yarns round the cylinder over the warp yarns as they are being moved along it at a speed controlled to regulate the angle between warp and weft yarns. The yarns are then heated by a portion (33) of the cylinder so they adhere together.
