[origin: EP1587021A1] Method for checking data relating to a motor vehicle and its circumstances, e.g. relating to its parking in a metered area, involves issuing a vehicle with a transponder which is reader by a checking person with a suitable short-range checking device. Once the data has been read by a checking unit and checked for validity, it is displayed to the checking person. The data can be used in conjunction with other data, e.g. originating from a central control center, which is communicated over a long-range communications device. An independent claim is made for a system for checking data relating to a motor vehicle and its circumstances.
