An automotive camshaft has an infinitely variable hydraulic adjustment wheel that is fixed to the camshaft and linked to the drive chain via a variable position outer wheel and a sprocket. The chain is held under tension by a spring lever. The components fixed to the crankshaft and the spring, and the part fixed to the camshaft are located in predefined rotary locations with respect to each other, so that the spring operates under defined tension.

Hydraulische Einrichtung zur stufenlos variablen Verstellung einer Nockenwelle einer Brennkraftmaschine mit einem mit einer Kurbelwelle der Brennkraftmaschine in Antriebsverbindung stehenden kurbelwellenfesten Bauteil und einem zu diesem zwischen zwei Drehendlagen relativ verdrehbaren, drehfest mit der Nockenwelle verbundenen nockenwellenfesten Bauteil wobei ein mit dem kurbelwellenfesten Bauteil einerseits und dem nockenwellenfesten Bauteil andererseits in Verbindung stehendes, außerhalb der Vorrichtung angeordnetes Federmittel vorgesehen ist, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sowohl das kurbelwellenfeste Bauteil und das Federmittel als auch das Federmittel und das nockenwellenfeste Bauteil zueinander rotatorisch eindeutig lagedefiniert sind, sodass das Federmittel definiert vorspannbar ist.
