[origin: EP1382615A1] The present invention relates to polypeptides inhibiting the function of MCAM in naturally occuring tumor cells and their use, and the use of other molecules inhibiting MCAM function, for the treatment of specific cancers, particularly for reducing the invasiveness and/or the metastatic potential of specific cancer cells. Furthermore, a method is provided that allows to determine whether a naturally occurring tumor cell depends on functional MCAM for its invasiveness and/or metastatic potential. Finally, a method is provided that allows to identify an antibody or an antibody fragment capable of inhibiting invasiveness of sarcoma cells. <IMAGE>
