Abstract (en)
[origin: FR2851339A1] The sonar unit has at least one modular multi-beam antenna (10) attached to an electrical traction cable and a signal processor. The antenna has plates (12,13) of a material that is transparent to acoustic waves and contain a series of omnidirectional hydrophones (16), the signal from each hydrophone being relayed separately via the traction cable to the processor, which synthesizes beams (15) oriented to cover the whole surrounding space. The antenna is fitted with a position sensor that allows its spatial orientation to be determined, and the hydrophones in each plate are spaced at intervals corresponding to half the wavelength of the middle frequency in the monitored band.
