The method for the forming of the injection process of a fuel injector (3) which is controlled by a switching valve (29) operated by a control valve (37) and which has a pressure intensifier to increase the pressure level of fuel to be injected in a combustion chamber, entails operating once or repeatedly the control valve piloting the switching valve during the main injection phase of fuel into the combustion chamber. At least one operating pause is interposed between a first operating phase and further operating phase of the control valve.

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren zur Ansteuerung eines Kraftstoffinjektors (3). Zur Betätigung des Kraftstoffinjektors (3) sind ein Schaltventil (29) sowie ein dieses betätigendes Steuerventil (37) vorgesehen. Der Kraftstoffinjektor (3) umfasst einen Druckverstärker (5), dessen Kolbenteile (6, 10) einen Arbeitsraum (8) und einen Differenzdruckraum (9) voneinander trennen. Über einen Kompressionsraum (11) des Druckverstärkers (5) ist ein Düsenraum (23) des Kraftstoffinjektors (3) mit unter hohem Druck stehendem Kraftstoff beaufschlagbar. Der Arbeitsraum (8) des Druckverstärkers (5) steht permanent mit einem Hochdruckspeicher (Common Rail) in Verbindung. Während der Haupteinspritzphase von Kraftstoff in den Brennraum einer Verbrennungskraftmaschine wird das das Schaltventil (29) betätigende Steuerventil (37) ein- oder mehrfach angesteuert, so dass das maximal am brennraumseitigen Ende eines ein- oder mehrteilig ausgebildeten Einspritzventilgliedes (21, 22) sich einstellende Druckniveau unterhalb des maximal erreichbaren Druckniveaus absenkt. <IMAGE>
