[origin: WO2004047962A1] The invention relates to a device (1) which comprises a drive device (7) of its own for displacing the device (1) and a cleaning device (2) for ambient air comprising an inlet (3) for taking up ambient air and an outlet (4) for discharging the cleaned air into the ambience. The invention is characterized in that the inlet (3) is adapted to take up ambient air in a range between a lower height of 0 cm and an upper height of 80 cm height (h) above a planar floor (5) on which the device (1) can be disposed. The invention further relates to a method for cleaning ambient air by means of a cleaning device (6) which is associated with a device (1) having a drive device (7) of its own for displacing the device. According to said method, ambient air is taken up, the air is cleaned and then discharged into the ambience. The inventive method is characterized in that ambient air is taken up at a height of between 0 cm to 80 cm above the floor.
