[origin: WO2004078584A1] The invention relates to an operation method and a propelling device for a large ship, for example a military rapid surface ship provided with at least one waterjet propulsion system (22) which is arranged under said ship and whose propulsion energy is produced by internal combustion engines (1), for example gas turbines. Exhaust gases produced by said internal combustion engines (1) are distributed by the water jet of the waterjet propulsion system (22) in the water under the ship. The speed of the water jet of said propulsion system is controlled according to requirements associated with the introduction and distribution of exhaust gases.
