[origin: DE10311123A1] A method of handling electronic entry cards in which initially an electronic entry card is stored on a portable data carrier by using an output terminal applied via a public data network. Subsequently, the portable data carrier is presented to a test terminal for testing in order to obtain entry to a establishment described by the electronic entry card. The reference of the electronic entry card (12) is effected via a first interface (S2) by using a first data transmission protocol (P2) matched to the public data network. Testing of the electronic entry card (12) takes place via a second interface (S1) by using a second data transmission protocol (P1) for fast data exchange. An independent claim is included for a portable data carrier usable as an electronic entry card.
