[origin: EP1604782A1] A grinding tool, especially a grinding wheel, has integral micro magnetic sensors to monitor the grinding process. The grinding layer (3) is applied to a base support (2) and the sensors, comprising coils, are incorporated onto or into the grinding layer with connections to a signal processing unit (7) inside the support structure. The processed signals are transmitted to an external processing unit by wireless, inductive links, sliding contacts etc. Several coils can be incorporated into the grinding layer, e.g. into segments (4) comprising the grinding layer.
