[origin: EP1605085A1] To maintain the yarn tension during reversal of the carriage at the end of its travel, the yarn (40) is taken through a clamp (2) and an eyelet (13) at the end of a spring-loaded dancer arm (1). The movement (SG) of the arm (1) takes up the surplus yarn (W) during carriage reversal (X, Y) and also operates the clamp (2). During part (SL) of the movement the clamp is open, but is shut during the remaining part (SF) to avoid excess yarn feed. Alternative trigger mechanisms are shown to provide sudden closing and opening of the clamp. The dancer arm swings round a pivot (10) and is a double-ended lever, the upper end (12) operating the trigger. The clamping force is provided by a separate spring and does not depend on the yarn tension.
