[origin: DE10313747A1] The joint hinging and articulation investigation system uses pins (6,7) with spherical markers (9) fixed to the patient's tibia (5) and femur (4). The positions of the markers are sensed by optical receivers (10) on a navigation system (8). The navigation system is connected to a computer (11) with a display monitor (12) and a keyboard. The patient's leg is flexed and hinge points on differently orientated pivot axes are calculated.
