[origin: EP1462724A1] An automatic heating control unit has a safety module which compares the temperature fed to a regulator from a sensor with a maximum allowable safe temperature (TSTB) stored in the safety module. If the safe temperature is reached or exceeded, the safety module generates a switch-off signal which causes the system to be switched off by the automatic heating control unit. An independent claim is included for a method of checking the temperature regulation or limiting function of a heat generating system.
