[origin: EP1607500A1] Following stuffer box texturing, yarn (7) is heat-set under zero tension on a perforated drum. It is then taken off and tensioned prior to winding up without using mechanical friction elements. Tension is provided by fluid friction, e.g. exposing a length of 2 to 5 m to air. The yarn can be enclosed in a conditioned chamber (12) and make several passes over guide rollers. An independent claim is also included for the process of tensioning yarn after texturing using a free length of yarn without contacting it with mechanical friction elements. An enclosed chamber can be fed with a fluid medium, e.g. an aerosol, especially water mist, to assist cooling. Fluid injection can be in the opposite direction to the yarn movement and linked to a control circuit to control the tension produced.
