[origin: WO2004087486A1] The invention relates to a steering system for a motor vehicle which comprises a steering mechanical assembly. Said steering mechanical assembly is divided into a top steering mechanical section (10) connected to a steering wheel and an lower steering mechanical section (12) which is connected to a power steering device provided with a steering gear. A clutch (18) is arranged between the top steering mechanical section (10) and the lower steering mechanical section (12). Said two steering mechanical sections (10, 12) are connected to each other when the clutch (18) is closed and disconnected when the clutch (18) is open.
