[origin: EP1609906A1] Calendering a web comprises drying the web; winding the web at the end of a production section; transporting the wound web to off-line calender(s); unwinding the web and passing the web through the off-line calender(s); and pre-calendering the web between drying and winding the web in on-line calendering unit(s) including nip(s) defined by hard roller(s). An independent claim is also included for a web-calendering machine comprising on-line calendering unit(s) (23) structured and arranged between drying station(s) (3) of the machine and winding station(s) (4, 22), wherein the web is treated in the on-line calendering unit before the winding station.
