Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2004089444A1] An apparatus and a method particularly for substituting one or more active elements of circuits for extracorporeal circulation (ECC), circuits for extracorporeal respiratory support with membrane oxygenation machine (ECMO), or other similar systems. In particular, the element is preferably selected from the group that consists of the oxygenation chamber (15) and the heat exchanger (16). Preferably, the present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for substituting elements of ECC circuits without interrupting circulation, for example if the maximum utilization times of the elements as stated by the manufacturer are exceeded.
