[origin: EP1612363A2] The method involves using a sensor device (5) to monitor a monitoring range (6) which as the sliding wing (2) opens is passed by a vertical secondary closing edge of the wing. In the presence of a blockage in this monitoring range the sensor device sends out a corresponding indicator signal to the control device so that the sliding wing after running through the acceleration phase and a shortened high speed phase is braked in a braking phase to a lower low speed. The acceleration phase, the shortened high speed phase and the braking phase are dimensioned so that a predeterminable minimum opening width is reached within a predeterminable maximum time.
