[origin: EP1466536A1] Container comprises a rotating drum (17) with a recess (21) for temporary storage of cigarette ends and a closed chamber for storing the extinguished cigarette ends. The container has an opening (14) arranged opposite an end side (25) of the drum and lying flush with the recess in certain rotational positions of the drum. A lid (3) releasing or covering the opening is connected to the drum and has at least one opening (5) for introducing a cigarette end. The drum is divided into at least two drum parts (19). Adjacent drum parts are separated by a gap (20) running perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the drum. Each gap has an element (16) arranged on a side wall (6) of the container and protruding into the gap so that the element changes the cross-section of the recess on rotation of the drum.
