[origin: WO2004093649A2] The present invention provides for a method and apparatus to facilitate hemostasis at a blood vessel puncture site having a cannula with a distal end, a proximal end, an inner diameter, and a lumen extending between said distal end and said proximal end; a bleed back port located near the distal end; a pusher having a top, a bottom, and a lumen extending between the top and bottom, the bottom is slidably received into the cannula lumen; a bleed back exit port located near the top; and a pledget having a first end and a second end, the first end positioned at the distal end within the cannula lumen, and the second end positioned below the bleed back port.
